Small Business Coaching:
What Difference Can REAL Coaching Make?
There’s consulting, and then there’s Real Coaching.
Consulting happens when the consultant acts as the expert and data-dumps their conclusions on you.
Coaching happens when the coach supports you as the expert and you take action on your conclusions. The goal is your transformation and accomplishment of your goals.
In real coaching, your coach doesn’t tell you what to do — though you are free to ask for suggestions, and your coach is free to request permission to offer them.
Instead, real coaching assumes that you are the expert in your own life, and that you will come up with the best solutions for how to move forward in your goals. You are free to avail yourself of any advice you deem worthy, of course, including your coach’s. But in real coaching, your coach is there to come alongside you and journey with you as you discover your way. The coach makes observations and asks questions that may stimulate the insight you need to come to new understanding and take action.
Frank Skidmore has been my coach for four years now. He has very patiently journeyed with me through. . . wow, where would I start? But i am finally acting on major goals I clearly articulated four years ago. Finally.
But everything up to now has been in preparation for doing that mission well. I’ve taken action countless times, transforming in the process. And Frank has been there the whole way.
Frank coaches not because he needs to, but because he wants to. He doesn’t coach for money as his primary motivator. He coaches for impact.
That’s because he is retired — from IBM, where he was well-known for his mentoring of women into high positions within the company.
So coaching women to become what they want to be and accomplish what they want to do is natural for him.
You’ll get much farther, much faster with a coach that fits you, than without one. You are welcome to try Frank, if you like, at PrismCoaching.com. I highly recommend him, and am only tempted to leave him so he’s then free for us to work together!
